Age of elegance

This lovely Art Nouveau lady is to be found in the latest edition of The World of Cross Stitching, issue 217.Age of elegance 001The distinct style of this period has always been a favourite of mine. I love the way it draws on the beauty of nature, and this lends itself perfectly to a soft, summery colour palette. I have used pretty pastel shades to give the design a fresh feel, breathing life into a classic style. The beautiful border of butterflies and flowers captures the feel of this iconic influence, and the sprinkling of sparkling seed beads add a special addition this picture.
As usual with a larger design, there are always smaller motifs to be found to stitch like this rose and one of the smaller butterflies………..Pretty rose 001

For when you want something small and quick to stitch for a greetings card.

Also in this issue is an article on the world – renowned knitwear and textile designer Kaffe Fasset. An exhibition of his work is now on at the American Museum in Bath until 2 November 2014.’The colourful World of Kaffe Fasset’ celebrates 50 years working as an artist and colourist. Although there isn’t any cross stitch there are plenty of colourful tapestries, worked in wool, which shows his wonderful use of colours.

  1. Lovely Stitching, i love Roses, Greatings, Martina

    • I agree Martina. We planted a number of new rose bushes earlier this year and they are all starting to bud, so I am looking forward to seeing the flowers very soon as they are all quite old varieties. Happy stitching, Lx
